A Ralphs Fresh Fare will be coming to Sherman Oaks!
We’ve crossed the finish line, and couldn’t have done it without our over 400 supporters, the Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council, the Sherman Oaks Chamber of Commerce, and VICA who stood by us every step of the way. We are pleased to announce that we have completed the approval process!
Yesterday we appeared before the Planning and Land Use Management (PLUM) Committee, where we received unanimous approval, and today the Los Angeles City Council voted to approve the project. We just need the Mayor’s sign off (which is a pretty standard step), and the process will officially be complete. Thank you to all those who came to hearings, wrote letters, and recorded videos. Our gratitude cannot be expressed in words.
To humor you with the latest round of supportive comments, colorful ones I may add, please check out the Curbed LA article on yesterday’s PLUM Committee hearing. There’s no getting around it…these comments are hilarious! We’re glad that some people are excited about the plans that will NOT look like a “big open parking lot in front of a squat, featureless box.”
With the current state of the economy, we all know that jobs are in high demand, developers are filing for bankruptcy, and new developments are hitting financial road blocks all across L.A. County. Well, Ralphs is ready to invest in Sherman Oaks.
What kind of investment are we talking about? Try over $2 million. Ralphs has always been dedicated to the community and is constantly out and about helping where we can. Investing in this Ralphs Fresh Fare is just another example of how we want to give back to Sherman Oaks!

Before you question where this $2 million is going, let us explain: this investment is for street and streetscaping improvements on Ventura Boulevard, Hazeltine Avenue and Moorpark Street. Ralphs will be widening the streets as well as the sidewalks, enhancing the landscaping around the store, improving crosswalks, and upgrading traffic signals around the site. We have also done voluntary traffic improvements as requested by the Sherman Oaks Neighborhood Council.
Not only is Sherman Oaks getting a Ralphs Fresh Fare with more offerings and a pedestrian friendly store touted as the future of market design, but the community is also getting over $2 million in street improvements around the store that will make Sherman Oaks more walkable, more enjoyable, and make the area more visually appealing.
Sherman Oaks, the market of tomorrow is here! Well, it could be…
At the City Planning Commission hearing in September, the Commissioners praised the design of the proposed Ralphs Fresh Fare as a representation of the future of markets.
The new Fresh Fare will be a one-stop shop for all your needs. Watch the video and see what we mean!
If you want this Ralphs Fresh Fare in Sherman Oaks, speak up NOW because we’re coming down to the wire!
We need our supporters to come out to the Planning and Land Use Management Committee hearing and tell the Council Members that you want this store! It’s that simple. Show up to the hearing on December 14th at City Hall in Downtown at 2:30pm, and ensure the future of markets begins in Sherman Oaks!
If you are coming to the hearing, or are unable to attend and still want to show your support, call us at 818-232-0760.
We are happy to announce that we finally have a date for our Planning and Land Use Management (PLUM) Committee hearing. We will be appearing before PLUM on Tuesday, December 14th in downtown at City Hall.
The PLUM Committee is composed of three City Council Members. They will hear our case and the appeal, and then make a recommendation to the City Council on whether the project should be approved. This is the last hearing before the City Council vote. What does that mean? It means this is our last chance to show the powers-that-be that Sherman Oaks wants this Ralphs Fresh Fare!
As you may have heard, we have been appealed and that means that there will be opponents there in full force. We need YOU, our over 400 supporters, to be there to tell the City Council Members why you want an upgraded store. Is it the newer, better looking site? The new proposed amenities including a kosher deli and bakery, expanded seafood, meat, and produce departments, or the prepared foods? The pedestrian friendly atmosphere created by bringing the store up to the street? MAKE SURE THE CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS HEAR WHY YOU WANT THIS RALPHS FRESH FARE!
Please note, our hearing will not be on Tuesday, December 7th as previously announced! Be there on Tuesday, December 14th at 2:30pm at City Hall in downtown Los Angeles! Don’t let the vocal minority speak on behalf of you!
